#1 Potter vs. #4 Leafs Semi-Final - 4/29/06.

In a rematch of the last game of the regular season Hartford's Potter Construction went up against the team with the most heart in the league, the team that has perfected the post-game, the LEAFS! Unfortunately the Leafs didn't have all their horses there and Potter was missing only one player, Gino Riffle, and Potter again scored in bunches rattling off 7 unanswered goals until the Leafs broke Jake Obar's shutout early in the third period. Tom Crapser started the scoring in the first at 7:08 being set of for a goal by Will Meyer and Gary Smith. Soon after the goal Kyle Manny went to the Leaf penalty box for a bodycheck at 6:57 and Potter quickly capitalized on the PP with Meyer's first of the game at 6:37 from Crapser and Barwood. Kevin Guilbault buried one at 4:56 from linemates Kevin Louzier and Bruce Hathorn. Potter must have kept pressing because not long after that goal another Leaf made his way to the box, this time it was Fred Redden for hooking at 4:09, but his teammates killed off the potent Potter attack with the man advantage. In the second period Trey Schaft contiued his late season awakening with a goal at 12:58 with his fourth point in three games (a personal record I am told) from Dan McGee and Jason Rouillard. Josh Obar took a highsticking penalty for Potter at 7:17, but the Leaf PP was spoiled with Chris Gogan's holding infraction at 7:04. Things settled down for 9 minutes on the scoreboard until captain Matt Potter scored at 3:51 set up by Anthony Shaw and Dan McGee who continued his mid-season hot streak. Two late goals in the third, Potter-style, put the game well out of reach. Scoring at 1:11 was Josh Obar from Crapser with his third point of the game, and then Meyer with his second, another classic unassisted effort at 0:09. Captain Casavant rallied the troops to spoil the shutout and finish the game with a respectable effort as far as the scoreboard was concerned (because we all know that the Leafs always give 100% pre, during AND post-game!) and at 13:19 of the final period Dave Riley ruined the playoff shutout for Obar after getting set up by none other than Mr. Leaf himself, Doug Heavisides. Justin Barwood added a goal to his two assists at 10:41 to answer Riley's shutout spoiler, and was assisted by Anthony Shaw with his second helping, uh, I mean helper of the night. The final goal was by Leaf forward Kyle Manny, also unassisted, at 8:25 to win the Leafs the period and some pride before they hit Murphy's with a venegeance (but not before drinking three 18 packs in the locker room)! Potter had quite the post-gamer in their locker room as well, watched Brokeback Mountain on a portable DVD, and had to send someone out to get more beer. At Murphy's, the Potter boys kept sending JT shots to get him hungover for the next day's Championship game, but his teammate and co-commish McD downed several in his stead taking one (or four) for the team, and then passed the glasses back for JT to raise in the air. After the third or fourth Matt Potter and his teammates caught on and decided to save their money (wise choice).
