You have a SERIOUS porn addiction, and it's affecting your ability to do your job as a commissioner. Please show up early tonight so that we can have an intervention and discuss how your addiction is affecting the rest of us. We all just want the Shawn that CARES about the Upper Valley Hockey League back. KP |

But seriously, I feel like I have been wasting my time and that nobody reads our stuff anymore. There is such a lack of comments and responses from all but a handfull of UVHLers that I wonder if we are just too hockey crazy and nobody else gives a shit. I hope to be proven wrong... My bad. McD Problem is, nothing in life is equal. As a commissioners McChomp, Shelly and presumably JT (parenthetically and wishfully) will always do more than anyone else to maintain the persona and quality of the league. It's like being a parent, you do the right thing to support your creation and ask for little in return with the hope that they don't hate you for some obscure reason, later. The commissioners will ALWAYS end up doing a disproportionate amount for almost no recognition. Kelly just donated about $3K worth of website, McD does write ups and JT is really active being fey and invisible. So, with that in mind, it's legitimate to revise an approach to the game write-ups. Why overwork when it's not necessary? I think the pre-games should be minimal projections based on the characteristics of the teams involved. About like they are now. In conjunction with the over under and projected margin of victories, there's not a reason for a lot of prose. The write ups themselves don't need to include all the info in the box scores. Why list the scoring/penalized players and their nick-names in the write-up when that info is in the box score? The write ups could be a short description of the game based on practiced strategies and the nature of each team's strengths and weaknesses. The writer has to stay for three games then compose material. The writing alone can take 4-8 hours. Why over-extend a gratuitous act? Make it easier for the people who do everything to begin with. Actually, the pre-game report could be axed. The over-under and projected margin of victory could be enough. |

Actually, the pre-game report could be axed. The over-under and projected margin of victory could be enough. Not too short, but sweet works. I understand there is a time factor involved, but I'm sure there is more people than you think that read the write-ups. The fact most people don't share on the website kinda blows, but hopefully as the league continues to grow, more will share. I for one think the write-ups can be delegated to those who may want to take a turn for a week and do them themselves. I would volunteer to stay all three games and do a write-up for each in a timely manner. It wouldn't be much, but the game would be described the best I could...with a few bits of hilarity thrown in...Just an idea. Waddayathink? |

As you noticed when you had to do them Big Boy, the write ups take time. People aren't lining up to do them. Too bad, because there is a lot of variety and originality among the players. The guy who did the write-ups a couple weeks ago was hilarious. The bit about Hays-Bates confusion was really funny. JT is also good and understands the game from a goalie's perspective. Good luck getting volunteers. It would be nice. ES |

ES Shawn & Kelly I know I speak for a lot of players in saying the write ups are great! You put pressure on yourself(ves) to make them different and thoughtful. I was traveling last week and it was so nice to login and read about an amazing week of hockey. The Whale rules!!!! It must have been a great game. I read the forum and write ups every week even if I don't comment. We have had two guest writers in seven seasons, so good luck on the volunteers. I am happy to help when I can. Commish is a lonely place where bitching outweighs praise. Just know that without you two, there would be 90 players looking for an outlet and one goalie moving away! |
