Brew Crew & Whale
The Whalers & Brewers have split their season series thus far with a win apiece. The Whalers are coming off of a huge 5-2 thrashing of the Nordiques before the holiday break. The Brewers are also coming off their best win of the season with a 1-0 forfeit loss over Tuck who could not field a team.
This will be an interesting game to watch as both teams have struggled at times as well as dominated. The rosters will be the decisive keys to this game as both teams have also had issues fielding a consistent roster.
If both teams have all players, the Whalers have the depth and better offensive punch to win this game...6-4.
Brewers survive late surge by Whalers, win 6-5.
The second place Brewers visited the fourth place Whalers tonight and took them down on home ice 6-5. Favored by a pair of goals the Whalers let down their entire fanbase all the while dropping to 4-6-0 on the season.
The Brew Crew obtained a 3-0 lead in this one behind goals from Timmy "Biscuits" Barrett, rookie Chris Lauras and Brock "The Bully" Barton. Barrett's first of three came just under nine minutes into the game on assists from Keith "The Big Show" Lazarczyk and Dan "The Bigger & Fatter Show" Charette.
Barrett's hat trick in this one earned him the First Star of the game and a P.O.W. nomination. Other than the first goal he also scored the eventual game tying goal and game winner, in a back and forth game that went to the wire.
The Whalers stormed back to bring it to a 3-2 game early in the second period behind a goal from Chris "Google Me" Gogan at the end of the first and an unassisted goal from Jay "Zamboni" Zanleoni just 2:04 into the second frame. That good feeling the Whalers had was squashed just a minute later when Keith "Bubba Gum" Lazarczyk tallied his own unassisted goal on Kenny Lallier, his eighth goal of the season.
Both Lallier and his counterpart Matty "The Spazzy" Albertazzi didn't have particularly a strong night as the pair let in 11 goals on 50 shots.
Gogan cut the lead to one goal again with 6:49 to play on a shorthanded tally from Scotty "Sugar" Shaw and Mike "The Aviator" Avery.
Barret made it 5-3 with 14 seconds left in the second before adding the eventual game winner with 5:01 to play in the game. Down by 3 goals with five minutes to play the Whalers started to play desperate, pressuring the Brewers and ultimately scoring two goals in the last 5 minutes to bring the score to 6-5. They carried play all the way to the buzzer and the Brewers escaped with a 6-5 win.
