In a scene reminiscent of that famous movie "Miracle", which may or may not have been based on true events, the winless Dead River Oilers finally got their first win of the season. "Do you believe in miracles?" FUCK YEAH! With a little bit of help from a pair of Nordiques and a Gambler, they went up early and then finished strong.

The Whalers have been one of the most dynamic offenses of the young season when they have the right personel on their bench, tonight they were missing three of their young stars in Gaudet, Vose & Hamel. Typically rolling 4 lines and 10 defensemen, the Whalers only had 12 skaters on their bench.

Dead River jumped out early lead on a Bruce "Wayne" Kordecki goal. Kordecki's goal was assisted by Greg "The Butcher of Guelph" Marsh, an alternate trying to help DR get their first win. Marsh was excellent in the game as he compiled a trio of assists and solidified the blue line, a tough task for a forward who rarely enters his own defensive end.

Unfortunately for Dead River's backstop, Greg "First Period" Feiden, he wasn't able to make it for the game and was denied his first win of the season. Filling in for Feiden was the Gambler's Jeremy "Second Period" Seidling who had 19 saves on 22 shots.

At the other end, Kenny "LaLaLaLa" Lallier had a rough night, stopping 22 of 26 shots.

With the score tied at three a piece entering the third, Jason Loomis broke the tie from Marsh with 13:20 to play. The Whalers went into panic mode and started playing more aggressively, taking a pair of penalties that proved costly where Dead River added two additional power play goals to close out the scoring.

The Whalers are clearly the more talented team, but just didn't have the goods tonight. They got a pair of goals from Scotty "Sugar" Shaw, both assisted by Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni. The difference was that the Whalers thought they were going to walk right through the lowly Dead River squad, and Dead River wanted it more.
