Brewers @ Dead River
This is an interesting game to call, seeing as the Brewers played a solid game against an improved Whalers team and Dead River played a sloppy game to a less talented Tuck team than last year.
In the end, this one will come down to the goaltending, and the roster that Dead River is able to put together. Dead River was missing some key elements last week in Duggan, Hughes, Zagaria and a recent Women's Dartmouth Captain. Add those players into the mix and Dead River takes this game, if they are not there, the Brewers will walk away with it early, taking the game 5-3.
Brewers remain perfect after 4-1 win over Dead River
The Brew Crew opened up to their best start in years with a solid 4-1 win over Dead River. Powered by their ton of fun winger Keith Lazarczyk who is a Player of the Week candidate for his 2 goals and 1 assist performance. Filling in between the pipes for Matty Crowson was Jeremy Seidling who was solid despite limited action, turning away 18 of 19 shots for the win.
Dead River opened up the season with a tough 6-4 loss to tuck last week, and didn't fare much better. As they try to figure out who they are after losing the core of their championship team last year to Grade A Sissiness, DR has welcomed some fresh blood. Opening up the night with the first goal, Jason Loomis finished a Bruce Kordecki rebound for the 1-0 lead late in the first. The 2nd and 3rd periods were all Brewers, as they netted 2 Power Play goals and an empty netter for the win.
Highlight for the Brewers was a goal scored by Dan "Super Nutty Fudge Chunk" Charrette as he blistered a snapshot through a screen from the point to put his team up 3-1 with 9:04 to play. Charette who is known more for his dominating defensive play than his goal scoring, scored just his 2nd goal in the past 4 seasons. Chris "Surfer Boi" Dubin also added his first goal of the season for the eventual game winner.
The Brewers will have their first test of the season next week against the Nordiques who were blown out by the Gamblers in week 1, then dominated Tuck 10-2 last week. Dead River will face off in a battle of the basement as they take on the only other winless team in the UVHL, the Whalers.
Don't forget to vote for the Long Trail Player of the Week! A case of beer is on the line, eh!
