Whalers @ Brewers
This one is a toss up. The Whalers who put in a late charge to close out Season 8, losing to Dead River in the Whalen Cup Finals is accustomed to a slow start. The Brewers on the other hand have had some roster issues in the off-season.
If the Whalers return the same roster from the end of last season, this should be an easy win...otherwise, it'll be a dogfight.
Whaers win it...5-4.

Brewers Come From Behind, Beat Whalers in Shootout.
For the second game of opening night, we were treated to a lovely match between the Long Trail Brewers and the Quechee Club Whalers. After a breakout season from the Whalers last season where they turned up the gas in the last few games of the season and making it all the way to the finals, they were poised to show the UVHL it wasn't a fluke.
The Brewers, who carried the weekly tradition over from last year of being shorthanded, did not disappoint. The Brewers showed up with only 8 skaters, and pulled in a sub to make it an even 9.
The big story of the night was rookie sensation Dillan Pierce netting his first career goal, assist & hattrick in his first game...being only a penalty away from a Robbie Pattison Hattrick. Pierce was excellent, picking up a point on all 4 goals for the Whalers.
Scotty "The Specialist" Shaw scored a PP goal in the 2nd with Brock "Bruiser" Barton in the box for a major league hook.
The Brewers got goals from Chris Johnson, Keith "Lethargic" Lazarzcyk and a pair of goals from Aaron Mancuso. Chris "Crash" Dubin choked on 3 breakaways and 8 opportunities in close. "For a guy with all that speed, he sure can't stickhandle" said one unnamed source.
The game was taken to a shootout, with alternate goalie Matt "The Albatross" Albertozzi stopping both Scotty Shaw and Jay "The Zamboni" Zanleoni for the win. Both shooters for the Brewers scored with Barton making a nifty move and Chris Johnson firing a quick shot for the goals.
Don't forget to vote for the Long Trail Player of the Week! A case of beer is on the line, eh!
